The food
What makes Bruiser’s hot dogs different?
Every dog is all beef from whole-muscle Angus cuts, with no fillers and no nitrates. The toppings are made from scratch, from the chili and 14-day sauerkraut to the coleslaw, mayo included.
What’s on a Chicago dog at Bruiser’s?
Yellow mustard, neon green relish, onions, tomato, a pickle spear, sport peppers and celery salt on a steamed poppy seed bun. No ketchup.
Can I get a bigger Chicago dog?
Want a bigger Chicago? Ask for the large. Feeling extra hungry? Try the Dirty Dell with chili and sauerkraut.
What sizes do the hot dogs come in?
Most dogs come in two sizes. The 1/8 lb comes on a steamed poppy seed bun, or a toasted potato bun if you prefer. The 1/5 lb comes on a Philly bun.
What is the Duca?
Our deep-fried dog with homemade chili, coleslaw, cheddar and bacon. It’s the one the regulars order by name.
What’s made from scratch?
Our chili, coleslaw (mayo too), 14-day sauerkraut, NYC onion sauce, tartar sauce, pico de gallo, Kevin’s New York cheesecake and the Kevin Cookie.
Kids
Does Bruiser’s have a kids meal?
Yes. The Kids Meal is a 1/8 lb dog on a toasted potato bun with tater tots and a drink.
My kid doesn’t like poppy seeds. Is that okay?
Of course. Any 1/8 lb dog can come on a toasted potato bun instead.
The bar
Is there a Chicago Cubs bar in Covington?
Yes. Bruiser’s is the Northshore’s only Chicago Cubs bar, with Cubs games on, a full bar and Chicago-style hot dogs.
Does Bruiser’s have draft beer?
No draft. We serve ice-cold domestic bottles and have a full bar, including the house Cubs Bloody Mary.
Can non-Cubs fans come?
Absolutely. Cubs fans, Sox fans, even Cardinals fans are welcome.

Can I watch a late Cubs game?
Some late games run past our closing time, so call ahead at (985) 234-9574 before a late first pitch.

Do you take reservations?
We don’t take formal reservations. For groups over 8, just give us a heads-up at (985) 234-9574 so we can be ready for you.
Does Bruiser’s host Cubs watch parties?
Yes. Cubs games are on at the Northshore’s only Cubs bar.
Can my group or class use the deck?
We’d love that. Morning yoga, meetups, community groups: call (985) 234-9574 to talk it through.
Are the Saturday shelter dog adoptions coming back?
Yes. It was Chief Larry Hess’s tradition, and every dog we featured found a home. We’re bringing it to Covington.

How long has Bruiser’s been around?
Since 2014. Ten years in Slidell, and now our own building in Covington.
Who owns Bruiser’s?
Kevin Barduca and Melissa McCoy. Kevin runs the kitchen. Melissa runs the front of house, and she is the boss.
Why is it called Chief’s Tots?
They’re named for Chief Larry Hess, retired Slidell Fire Chief and the World’s Okayest Bartender. Forever one of us.
